The climate

Like the Côte d'Azur, Corsica enjoys a temperate Mediterranean climate. Summers are hot and dry, winters mild and wet. A distinction can be made, however, between the climate of Upper Corsica, which is generally warmer and drier, and that of Southern Corsica. Springs are warm, with colorful, fragrant blossoms that are a delight for flora lovers.

The best time to sail is between May and September. Temperatures in this period fluctuate between 23/24°, but can rise to 36/37° in the summer months. The island climate remains stable, although storms of rare violence are becoming more and more frequent, a sign of gradual climate change.

Geography

Corsica enjoys the very special status of a "mountain in the sea", with an average altitude well above sea level (600m). A true jewel of the Mediterranean, it has long been known as the "green island", as it abounds in regional parks and nature reserves rich in endemic species. This natural heritage, protected on over 40% of Corsica's surface area, abounds in unique sites: waterfalls, natural pools, hiking trails (GR20)...

The formalities

For French nationals, for a tourist stay of less than 3 months, all travelers, including minors, must be in possession of a passport or national identity card valid for the entire duration of their stay. For other nationals, please contact the relevant authorities. Please note that proof of identity is required to embark with one of our rental partners.

Currency and exchange rate: Euro.
In Corsica, credit cards are used almost everywhere. French retailers are obliged to accept at least 2 means of payment: cash, cheque or CB. In Corsica, cash is predominant. Some merchants will refuse payment by CB below a certain amount, generally between €10 and €20.

What license do I need to sail?

In Corsica, no license is required to sail a catamaran. However, you will need to present a Nautical CV to reassure the charter company of your ability to sail independently, if you do not wish to hire a professional skipper. A motorboat license (coastal or offshore) will also be required if the catamaran's tender has an engine greater than 6 hp.

Ports and marinas :

Often located in the heart of towns, Corsica's ports are excellent starting points for exploring the island's different regions. Nestled in the Mediterranean, Corsica boasts 28 ports and anchorages with a total of 7,000 moorings, making it a prime destination for yachting enthusiasts. All independently managed, some will limit the length of your stay in very high season (Bonifacio harbor), while others will not take reservations by telephone. It's important to plan well in advance if you wish to stop off at certain ports or marinas. Please note that if strong winds are forecast, the port may refuse you access to the marina, as the number of berths is limited for some marinas, which fill up quickly. We strongly recommend that you check your weather forecast regularly, so that you can get as far away from the low-pressure area as possible and take shelter without waiting for a place.

Good to know

Moorings: It should be noted that regulations are constantly evolving in this area, and that Corsica protects its coastline, and in particular the Posidonia meadows, by installing mooring buoys.

4G/5G networks and internet: It's important to note that you may not have network coverage everywhere. A real moment of disconnection ahead, but it's essential to take this into account, especially if you're planning to work or call your loved ones regularly.

Language: French and Corsican. Corsica is a popular tourist destination, but it's also very loyal to its roots. Corsican is taught in schools. Due to the presence of many tourist attractions, translations will be available in English and sometimes even in Spanish, Italian and German.
